straight open end, as seen in the pix and others in that series of galleries.
They are used for conveyance and display of one product or another.
You can easily guess why the handles on the basket-tray are shaped as they
are;
the answer is leaning against the fence behind the lady.
A cross the shoulders carrying pole made of split bamboo with upward curved
ends... a basket is
hooked on each side.
