G'day,

I trust that this greets you and all well.

I believe that there are some PC projects in Kampuchea (Cambodia) with
renowned Australian PC educator/designer/author Rosemary Morrow having
worked there for years I believe (among others). You could send a note to
http://lists.cat.org.au/mailman/listinfo/permaculture-oceania to get in
contact with her.

In addition to that I have been made aware of many other PC-related projects
thru colleague Tom Duncan. We, along with other Permaculture Across Borders
(PAB) colleagues have in train the establishment of a Permaculture Research
Institute (PRI) over there in future. This will precipitate the further
development of PC projects over there with the assistance of targeted
western capital. I will probably be going over there in 2007 working on an
as yet undisclosed PC project. I understand that there are many new
agroforestry-based non-timber projects getting started over there with high
levels of Vietnamese collaboration. There are delagations of Kampuchean
officials staying at my hotel in Dong Xoai every week.

Here in southern Viet Nam I am collaborating on a broadscale PC project
about 40kms from the Kampuchean border. Tomorrow morning I am going up to
Hue to visit the PRI Viet Nam project sites initiated by PRI director and
PAB colleague Geoff Lawton along with local PRI PDC Graduate and Social
Ecologist Mr Duong Cuang Chau <mailto:speri@speri.org> . I'll check with
Chau if he knows of any contacts and let the list know later in the week.

Things are looking good in this part of the world as far as the future
development of Permaculture. That said the shift to fossil-energy production
systems and ramping up state-sanctioned NPK/Biocide production remains a
challenge that we from the west are not unfamiliar with. Certainly many of
my local agriculture/forestry colleagues are Permaculture advocates. Bill
Mollison's visits in the late 1990's and 2001 certainly didn't hurt. We have
republished and widely distributed the Vietnamese translation of
"Introduction to Permaculture" which is a big help in the technical
transfer.

Funny the Vietnamese view the Kampucheans as poor which says something when
the average annual income round these parts is about US$500/yr.

BTW love the Bucky quote: always interested in that guy's stuff.

Yours and Growing,
