Black Oak Sand Savanna
May 17 to 21, 2006

Permaculture is an holistic designed system that uses the principles
of nature to make our environment healthy for plants, animals and
people. Coined the lazy man's gardening, this form of sustainable
agriculture is highly efficient and effective producing more diverse
and abundant yields with little to no effort and fossil fuels.
Permaculture principles can be applied from the farm to the city.
The concepts span to rebuilding local economies, lessening our
dependence on fossil fuels, and making for healthier families and
communities. This workshop will introduce the principles of
permaculture and its applications. Excellent preparation for
permaculture design certification.

Savanna is a transition zone from forest to prairie. Our sandy soil is home to many rare plants and animals including the stunted black oaks, the crowned oval sledge, the red headed wood pecker and the pocket gopher.
Founded by a freedman in the 1800's, Pembroke township is one of the last remaining black oak sand savannas in the Midwest
