Sunday, May 7
MUSHROOM WORKSHOP
9:00 - 4:00 pm
Learn to inoculate mushroom logs with shitake spores and spend an afternoon
discussing woodland ecology and permaculture! Local artist Steve Sierigk of
Acorn Designs will show participants how to drill logs and discuss the ups and
downs of mushroom cultivation. A forest walk and discussion of permaculture
will also be included in the afternoon. Class will be outside, please come
prepared.
Cost: $25 dollars includes take home materials and one oak log! Additional
logs with spores can be purchased for $15

PERMACULTURE BASICS

Steve Gabriel will lead this day long workshop on permaculture ethics and
principles as a toolbox for sustainable living. Participants will take an
in-depth look at ecosystem pattern and discuss how we can learn good design
from natural systems. Class includes a one hour break period and a hands-on
design project at East Hill Farm.
Cost: $45 includes take home materials

BUILD AN URBAN ECOSYSTEM
9:00 - 4:00 Workshop
6:00 - 9:30 Potluck and Town Hall meeting
WORKSHOP: Our monthly skill share series will continue at this exciting even
in the Northside neighborhood in Ithaca, NY. We will demonstrate quick and
easy ways to transform urban lots into healthy, yielding ecosystems! Includes
a discussion of design strategies as well as plenty of hands-on activities.
Topics: Urban Compost, Sheet Mulching, City Plants, the City as an Ecoystem.
MEETING: In the evening there will be a community potluck and an open
discussion entitled "Taking Down Fences"--where neighborhood residents will
gather to discuss their hopes and dreams for creating a cooperative space. We
will first give a short presentation on designing neighborhoods, followed by a
Town Hall style meeting with open discussion. All are welcome.
Cost: $25 dollars for workshop - Northside residents FREE! Potluck and
Meeting FREE!

FOREST GARDENING with DAVE JACKE

Food Forest agriculture attempts to mimic the structure and function of
natural ecosystems in food-producing ecologies. This workshop explores the
vision, theory, design, and practice of ecosystem agriculture using the
temperate deciduous forest ecosystem as the model for creating food producing
systems. Dave Jacke (www.edibleforestgardens.com) is a well respected teacher
and designer who recently released Edible Forest Gardens, an extensive
two-volume book on the subject.
Cost: Sliding Scale $200 - 300, lodging extra

techniques of permaculture with a focus on practical application of conscious

Design

TWO WEEK CERTIFICATION COURSE
A comprehensive two week intensive (75 hours) course covering all elements of
the curriculum. We will use the backdrop of the Finger Lakes bioregion to
consider specific local issues of energy use, water catchment, season
extension, and food preservation. With the completion of necessary coursework,
students are able to use permaculture for business purposes and further
personal study toward becoming a certified practitioner. Permaculture Design
Certification (PDC) requires attendance at core modules, elective credits, and
the completion of a design practicum.
