Where (besides this listserv) if anywhere, is there a forum for debating

There are few places to do this Rob and there is some resistance among permaculturists to the discussion of 'controversial issues' at all. This stands in marked contrast to my experience in the world of development aid NGOs, where the discussion of controversial and uncomfortable issues is critical to the effectiveness of the NGOs in the world and to their dealings with government and donors.

In part, the reticence among some in the permaculture community can be attributed to Bill Mollison's disdain of such activity expressed earlier in the history of the movement. More than one prominent permaculturist has described the discussion of controversial and challenging subjects as focusing on the 'negative'. Thus, solving problems is placed at a disadvantage.

Moving outside discussion of trends and themes controversial within the movement, there is no venue that I am aware of in which controversial issues regarding the application of permaculture design in the wider community can be carried out.

Most 'industries' (the notion of a permaculture industry is crucial to Permaculture International's move to accredit a vocationally-recognised permaculture course) have internal journals for discussion of controversial issues.

This listserv is as good as it gets.
