I'm curious about the issue of sharpening scythes as I have heard conflicting
ideas. People do obviously sharpen their sycthes. But then I've also been
told differently by someone who used their sycthe regularly to mow fodder
grass.

Their take on the matter was that provided the blade was kept moist while
being used (such as mowing in morning dew), a proper sycthe blade was
designed to be self-sharpening. Stone sharpening was more for remedial
purposes rather than regular maintenance.

What's your opinion?
