Dynamic Learning
The learning style is dynamic, interactive and practical with access to the permaculture-in-action projects and systems at Djanbung Gardens, Jarlanbah Permaculture Hamlet and the unique village of Nimbin.

Bridge theory and practice as you live, learn and explore this creative environment and experience first-hand ecological building, productive gardens and forest ecosystems, integrated poultry, biological sewage and greywater treatment, intricate water catchment management and aquaculture, eco-village and community development projects, alternative technology and energy systems and an excursion to the ancient world heritage rainforest of Nightcap National Park to observe forest ecology and an introduction to Aboriginal ethnobotany.

This course includes the 72 hour curriculum of the Permaculture Institute and on completion you will receive the Permaculture Design Course Certificate of Completion.

Participants receive a copy of Permaculture Education¹s PDC Handbook with over 120 pages of notes and resource information prepared by Robyn Francis, to reduce the stress of note-taking & provide you with a valuable information resource for future reference.

Topics include
- Patterns and processes in nature and human culture & application to design for sustainability
- Soil ecology, improvement and management, natural nutrients, mulches and compost
- Water management planning, collection, storage and conservation, earthworks and aquaculture
- Forest ecosystems and design of forests for food, forage, fibre, structural materials, habitat, conservation, wildlife, tree-cropping and farm forestry
- Food producing systems for home gardens and small holdings through to broad acre farmlands
- Integrated free-range and animal forage systems
- Design to reduce vulnerability to fire, drought and natural disasters
- Integrated pest & weed control
- Appropriate energy and resource conserving technologies and design, renewable energy systems, and passive solar house design
- Bioregional & community development strategies, urban renewal, eco-village design, community economics, legal structures, community gardens and city farms

Course Details
Course duration: 85-90 hours
The PDC is a 2 week intensive programme over 13 days from 9am-5.30pm with some evening sessions.
First day starts 10am

Registration Fee:
AUD $850/$750(conc) 2-week Intensive PDC
includes all tuition & course activities, course handbook, lunches and some evening meals - send a $100 deposit with your registration form.
Low income students can apply to do voluntary work for a course fee concession (up to 20%)

Accommodation - bunks and camping available on site

Tutors:
Robyn Francis and guest tutors who may include Janelle Schafer, Peter Hardwick, Peter Gould and other resource people.

Robyn Francis is well known for her extensive work in permaculture since 1984: as a teacher, designer, presenter, writer, editor of the Permaculture International Journal ('87-92) & founding director of Permaculture International Ltd. She has taught and consulted in USA, Germany, New Zealand, India, Bali & many parts of Australia including work with Aboriginal communities.

Robyn Francis¹ extensive design work has included suburban edible landscapes, self-sufficiency & commercial farms, community gardens, public landscapes, rural communities & village development, in climates ranging from cold temperate to arid & humid tropics, for grass roots individuals and businesses through to Government Departments
