Subject: JOHN JEAVONS: Growing More Vegetables with
BIOINTENSIVEGardening, this Thursday at 7PM
John Jeavons, a trained statistician, took the physical aspects of
Alan Chadwick's gardening method and created biointensive gardening,
a highly effecient method of producing the highest quality vegetables
in the smallest amount of space. (Using biointensive techniques,
Steve Moore of York PA grows 10 times the national yield of bell
peppers.)
Jeavon's ideas are carefully laid out in his best-selling HOW TO GROW
MORE VEGETABLES. This Thursday we will demonstrate double-digging and
the use of the u-bar and view CIRCLE of PLENTY, a video about
Jeavon's work, followed by discussion and refreshments.
This series on human-scale sustainable agriculture, inspired by
Howard Shapiro's GARDENING FOR THE FUTURE OF THE EARTH, continues at
the Blue Ridge Center in Purcellville, VA (www.brces.org), Thursday
evenings at 7pm in the big tent. Call or email me to reserve a chair
