Hi George,
check out work by the Max Plank institute...
Also, just read about a guy who studies the genetics of cattails and
according to him, there can be many variations of cattails in the same
marsh/bog/wetland.
Interestingly, the more the water is polluted the more he finds genetic
variations. In other words, these plants are so good at cleaning water that
they literally mutate/adapt to meet the exact nature of the water's they are
in !
