Aloha,

Couple more reading suggestions for those following the "cultural
myths" thread:

"King Solomon's Ring," Konrad Lorenz - Lorenz was perhaps the first
scientist (biologist/naturalist) to notice that all one could learn
from studying animal behavior in captivity was how animals behaved in
captivity...go figure!

"Toward a History of Needs," Ivan Illich - turns "conventional" views
of economy, industry, technology, medicine, education, professions,
etc. sideways and bass-ackwards and inside out in looking at how
"...growing dependence on mass-produced goods and services gradually
erodes the conditions necessary for a convivial life." I find a lot of
cautionary tales for PCists therein...
