Tung-oil is also wonderful as a floor seal, it penetrates well and lasts much longer than the dreaded polyurethands.

It sounds to me like the Aleurites (the "candlenut tree") which I believe is
the tung-oil tree, or perhaps a close cousin. It grows very easily, is seen
all over Hawaii in semi-wild state, . I tried to bring nuts back to Brazil-
unsuccessfuly because the customs lady caught me!-- but discovered once home
that it is a fairly common street ornamental here. The oil is good for
burning and for making varnish. The hawaiians use it to paint their boats.
It is edible in small quantities. Large quantities cause diarrhea...
