The perspective that eating organically will preserve and promote better
health is not a conclusion that people necessary draw here (in my area
anyway). Dennis Avery and the Hudson Institute (with some help on the part
of the media) has consistently bashed organic food as unhealthy (claims that
people more likely to ingest e coli eating organically grown food) and,
recently has argued that organic growing practices are bad for the
environment. He's actually arguing that organic growers are responsible for
extensive environmental destruction because of organic growing methods and
pest controls.
The average consumer doesn't quite get it because they have no idea about
how food is grown or produced.
I participated in an agriculture day for about 2000 10-year-olds and their
teachers. There were children who believed that tomatoes are produced in
factories...that's why they come in cans, eh? What does this suggest about
food and eating in my area?
Yikes.
