Solar power -- Power began flowing Thursday from Sun Power
Station #1, the first solar-electricity system built specifically
to
serve the "green power" market created by deregulation. It was
dedicated at the BJ's Wholesale Club in North Dartmouth, Mass.
Sun Power Electric of Boston, a non-profit and the nation's first
utility producing all its power from solar energy and selling it
in
the competitive market, owns the system. Sixty of the 156
photovoltaic panels -- non-polluting devices fueled by the sun --
are in place. Once completed, the 50 kW system will generate
60,000 kWh of electricity annually, meeting 10 average homes'
needs for 20 years. Sun Power sells the power to AllEnergy for its
"green" electricity product, "Re-Gen." Consumers choosing Re-Gen
can upgrade all or part of their electricity supply from polluting
fossil-fuel sources to clean, renewable power. Contact W. David
