Dear Friends on the Lists:
I would like to re-iterate my recent e-mail recommendation of Carolyn
Nuttall`s book: Agroforests for Children: An Outdoor Classroom. It is
the life story of how, through the process of implanting a school
agroforest, one primary teacher saw the whole linear and fragmented
curriculum transformed into an integrated process initiated by the
students , where the teacher`s role became one to guide and
complement what the students were asking for.
What happened is much more than a "science exercise"-- we see here a
profound paradigm shift in the students, the teacher, the curriculum ,
and even the school structure. (Bringing profound meaning back into
learning)
At the same time the process was simple and cheap. This is a book
that
should be put into the hands of all primary teachers (remember your
cousin, your neighbor, whoever...). It is clear and inspiring.
As I said in the last e-mail, we are translating it here in Brazil(
with Carolyn`s generous offer to dedicate the work to Brazil`s
children) and intend to make it available to primary schools across the
country.
Several of you wrote asking for information on ordering. Carolyn
herself replied:
