Hello everybody,

I would like to inform you that I am also working on a Dutch
Permaculture-website with the PFAF-database integrated.
When one of the search pages is finished in Dutch (my motherlanguage), I had
planned to translate it to English, not knowing you are also building a
searchable PFAF-databasewebsite.
I want to integrate three ways of searching:
- simple (search for part of a plantname)
- complex (make a selection combining all possible fields)
- question directed, in which the next questions can be selected:
* I want to grow a plant that can be harvested in August.
Here you can change the month and add the kind of soil/sunlight in your
garden.
* I want to create my own plantlist (that I planted in my garden), make an
inventory of them and get a list of gardentasks per month (when to sow,
harvest, etc)
* I want an edible plant that will bloom yellow in May.
Here you can change color and month.
* I want to attract butterflies, which plants should I plant?
* Which plants will grow in a pond?
* Which plants are good companionplants?
When one of the questions is selected, you get a list of plants. When you
click the plantname, you get the detailed info.

Could you give me a list of what your website would have for visitors to
profit? Maybe we can help each other.

Your's truly, Ad Vlems
My website is: www.permacultuur.net, it's still very much under
construction.

agreed.
should I submit request for other people to participate in the project?
does a more technical person want to take control?
i would like our efforts to bear fruit as something - even if it's different
than what we initially imagined. think permaculture, how can this umph be
appropriately channeled...

Aloha,

> questions:
> -do we still want to work on this project?

Not in its current state, namely DIW (Dead In Water) except for Bear's
recent efforts of interest.
When I ask for a measly $500 @ $15/hr to improve/polish the issue tracker
based on feedback from group use so far and the response is deafening
silence my motivation vanishes like Descartes when he stops thinking.

> -do we consider this project worthwile (even if we personally don't
> want to work on it)?

From a functionality standpoint I don't find much that's been done so far
worthwhile, with the possible exception of where Bear has started exploring.
I can get more plant information faster using Google than using current PIW.
As I posted some time ago based on an ad hoc case study drawn from a
question on a permaculture list, PIW is currently pretty useless for even
basic plant searches.

> -is it justifiable to retain Threshold funding???

I don't know what the terms of the funding are.
If we have formal agreements and we've not met them then I think the money
should be returned. If we don't have formal agreements and/or what we have
have not been broken then it's an open question.
If others turn up to move the project forward then by all means apply the
money to it.

FWIW nobody who's somewhat of a key player can go completely AWOL on a
software development project and assume/expect that it will keep on chugging
without them. Since we've all done our share of AWOL I'm not surprised PIW
is DIW.

> not angry. I appreciate you all and have enjoyed working and
> non-working
with
> you ;) but wanting HONESTY.

Likewise...hope the above suits.

I Mua,
John S.
