In the Caribbean (trinidad) traditional alternatives to ethrel have long been used. Carbide. I dont know what industry it is a by product of? however, this "chemical" is used as a stone form in lamps and reactsw with water to produse ethylene or aceytlene gas. I believe placing a small chunk of stone wrapped in a brown bag in the center of the plant, can do the trick to initiate the flowering sequence for pineapple. I have seen other farmers sprinke some of the carbide water on the leaves of the pineapple. I dont know the information as to the toxicity or the health status of carbide. But i can imagine that it can be dangerous if ingested.... > From: opwg-request AT lists.ibiblio.org > Subject: OPWG Digest, Vol 15, Issue 2 > To: opwg AT lists.ibiblio.org > Date: Fri, 20 Mar 2009 10:11:47 -0400 > > Send OPWG mailing list submissions to > opwg AT lists.ibiblio.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/opwg > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > opwg-request AT lists.ibiblio.org > > You can reach the person managing the list at > opwg-owner AT lists.ibiblio.org > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of OPWG digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
