Hi All,

Does the OCBA have an observation hive or frame holder I can rent or borrow?  I wanted to take a frame over to my son’s school (8 minute drive from my hives) and show his class.

Thanks for your help!

Blitz

I consolidated two hives this morning and as a result have a good queen to sell.

This hive was queenless for 37 days and had a serious varroa problem earlier in the summer (beekeeper error all the way). It was weak as a result. I bought and installed a queen on August 5. As of a week ago I thought something had gone wrong and the hive was still queenless. I was planning this morning to newspaper-combine this hive with another. But surprise, there was lots of brood on two frames. However, I decided that i don?t want to feed this hive all winter and it is better for me to have two strong hives rather than include this smaller one too. So, I went ahead with my combining intention.

If you are interested in this queen for $20, please give me a call. 919-932-3554.

Thanks,
Jerry Schoendorf

I have an upper entrance in one of our hives and for the last week I have seen a small gang trying to pull? about? a 3" piece of what looks like a tiny fiber of rigid yellow straw into the opening.? Sometimes they get a portion in but the next time I go out? they have it on the outside again.? Other bees just go in and out as usual.? One bee gets below it and does that back and forward movement.? A few times I didn't see it at all but then it reappears.? These creatures surly are fascinating.

The questions and answers on this site are invaluable.? Thanks so much!

Janet Weinberg!
