Randy, In my neck of the woods, I've seen my bees collect LOTS of pollen lately but not an abundance of nectar, at least not this week. Remember that the tulip polar isn't blooming quite yet, at least not at my place. The result is lots of brood (pollen=brood) and bees, and they eat. So folks need to keep an eye on their honey stores right now. In a couple of weeks we should have PLENTY but we have to get there first. A few miles in one direction or another may considerably change what folks are seeing with their stores, but your note is a good reminder that everybody ought to check regardless. Tonight the bees were bringing in pollen but not much, it was 6pm when I got home. Seems like there should be more bees. Anyway I lifted the hive (4 boxes) it seemed light, very light as lifting it was too easy. So here is my question have the bees eaten more honey to build up the 5 new deep frames? Or might half of them left in a swarm and taken the most of the honey? No robbing, seemingly happy bees. Maybe 5 days ago I was having 500 bee orientation flights. Hate to do it, but it looks like I need to feed them. I am feeding the nuk. I just did not want to open them up tonight. Cheers, Randy Emmitt www.rlephoto.blogspot.com |
