Hello Beekeepers,

I need some help!  UNC Biology has a 3 frame observation hive that they would like to get re-established.  I gave them 3 frames about 4 years ago and installed them.  I went back about 2 years ago and sold them another 3 frames and installed them.  It's time for a new batch of 3 frames and I was wondering if someone who lives closer to to UNC would be willing to work with them on this.

The observation hive is in a basement classroom so installing them invloves hopping down in to a window well (seems like the window well is about 6 feet deep) and having someone hand you the hive through the window.  Install the bees outside, then pass the observation hive back through to the inside.

The folks that I have dealt with down there are super gracious and very appreciative.  They say that the bees are a favorite of their students and do make quite an impression on them.  All I have done so far is simply deliver the bees and let them deal with them.  I believe if someone did a few checks per year, they may be able to extend the life of the hive past one or two years.  The 3 frame observation hive is tough for the bees to sustain.

Any takers?  Please contact Cathy Lohmann at clohmann AT email.unc.edu to set it up.  I'd also like to know that it has been handled so just let me know so I can mark it off of my list.

Thanks,

Lewis
