We had the winter of winters here. Coldest since 1978 (before I
started growing fruit in the ground). 50+ days below 0 degrees F and
two nights of -28F. There are a lot of peaches planted in our area and
the only local ones available this year were grown in a cold tunnel.
I do have a seedling peach grove of 3rd + 4th generation selected
Siberian C, Iowa White indian and few other seedling strains. They
did not flower either this year but they are all fully leafed out and
looking good. Since my primary use is wine, and seedling peaches make
wonderful wine, that's the direction I see myself heading. I'm not a
grafter, so all my peaches are usually bought at retail prices so it's
just too expensive to keep putting them in the ground only to see them
die a few years later.
