If you are concerned about 'mad cow disease', what about super-phosphate or triple phosphate?
I haven't used bonemeal since the alarms about 'mad cow disease'.
I do understand that phosphorus does not move down into the soil with rains as does nitrogen so you have to put it at the roots of the tree in the beginning.
