- Subject: [nafex] long pears?
- Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2012 05:56:38 -0700 (PDT)
While vacationing in Greece, I saw pears for sale in produce stores that were
extremely long, sort of like a butternut squash. They were actually bigger
than I would want to eat in one sitting. Not speaking Greek, I didn't ask
about them at the time, so I don't even know if they were grown there or
imported. Does anyone here know about them? Is pear neck length affected by
growing conditions, or were they an extra-long variety?

Do a Google search for Abate Fetel pears and see if that is it? This is one
of the more popular pears in Italy which is close by Greece. We saw a lot
of those when we were in Italy. I have a couple of small trees growing here
in western Washington state.
