They are tissue cultured, definitely not grafted so the suckers are identical
to the original bushes (good thing too, cuz mice too out these two bushes
last winter.  Actually I don't think anyone sells the U of S cherries as
grafts, I have only ever seen own root bushes.  These cherries are known to
sucker, some more than others.  Of the 50+ bushes on the property in
question, only these 2 bushes have suckered over the 4-6 growing seasons that
they have been in the ground.

The Third International Pawpaw Conference

“Pawpaw: Its Past, Present, and Future”

September 9-10th, 2011 Frankfort, Kentucky

Sponsored by

Kentucky State University Land Grant Program, the Ohio Pawpaw Growers
Association, and the PawPaw Foundation

The Third International Pawpaw Conference will be held September 9-10th,
2011, in Frankfort, Kentucky. The Conference will be sponsored by the
Kentucky State University Land Grant Program, the Ohio Pawpaw Growers
Association and the PawPaw Foundation. The Conference will feature
“Pawpaws Around the World” (a discussion of national and international
pawpaw variety trials), pawpaw processing and marketing advances, as
well as talks and poster sessions about pawpaw research, extension, and
entrepreneurial activities. The Conference will include a “Pawpaw
Culinary Extravaganza” featuring pawpaw menu items from chefs, as well
as other unique Kentucky cuisine. This Conference will be a unique
experience for scientists, nurserymen, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to
share information about the production and uses of pawpaw.

In addition to presentations on pawpaw, the Conference will also offer
an opportunity to taste pawpaw fruit and tour the Kentucky State
University pawpaw orchards. The Conference will have a number of invited
speakers; however, there will also be a poster session and show-and-tell
session about pawpaw for participants. The Conference will be limited to
180 attendees. The deadline for pre-registration will be August 1, 2011
with a registration cost of $175.00 per person. For registration
information and Conference updates, please go to our website at
http://www.pawpaw.kysu.edu/3rdinternationalpawpawconference.htm or write
Dr. Kirk Pomper, Kentucky State University, 129 Atwood Research
Facility, Frankfort, KY 40601, or call 502-597-6174. We look forward to
seeing you at this exciting event!
