Are Truffles an Alternative to Grapes? North American winegrape growers hope pricey fungi will complement their crops

Something I learned of recently, is there is a truffle originally discovered in Texas that is found along the gulf region to Florida, Tuber lyonii (formerly texense) that is commonly called Pecan Truffle or Texas Truffle. It is not restricted to pecans, but can be common in some pecan orchards. "T. lyonii is considered a white truffle, but it is a unique fungus with a flavor and texture all its own. There has been interest in these truffles from a culinary standpoint, and indeed a variety of chefs have experimented with them. The general feeling is that they are very good and have potential as a food commodity."
