I am in Idaho.. kinda dry here too and I lost a VanDamen to fireblight.  I also would like to replace it with something more resistant.  I would consider a bush ornamental type if it had culinary virtue.  I am not in love with the Russian edible fresh and raw quinces.  I am looking for an old fashioned hard as rock..pucker your mouth if you try to bite into it type.

It's dry in summer in the Willamette valley so fireblight isn't a problem here. I've never had it on my quinces in over 30 years.

Where we lived previously in southern oregon, I lost two (all) quinces - Pineapple and Aromatnaya - to presumably fireblight, though I never had problems on the apple or pear trees, even the bartlett 30' away.

Having moved to a warmer wetter climate (Willamette valley), I'd think the FB risk was higher. I can't find information on if some varieties of (fruiting) quince have more FB resistance?

thanks
