I agree that the clamping kind is more stable. I have the suction cup one,
and there's not enough difference for me to trade in one for the other. The
clamp needs a table ledge, and the suction cup one needs a smooth surface,
the smoother the better.

At first I preferred to core and slice the apples myself - I suppose I felt
somehow limited by the one slice thickness and shape. But then I tried some
pastries with it, and they were just as good as those where I sliced the
apples myself, and certainly much faster to make. If I want a little extra
texture, I can set aside one apple to cut thicker slices or wedges.

My gadget is like the Amazon one except it clamps on to a counter or table.
I do like the clamp over a suction cup. I am not keen for the slicing some
how. So I don not use it as much as I might.

This year I made juice so I did not use it at all.

Can anyone recommend a good apple peeler/slicer? I.e. something along
these lines:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Machine--Peeler-Corer-Slicer/dp/B000UZA2HQ/

or

http://www.lehmans.com/store/Kitchen___Helpers_and_Accessories___Peelers_and
_Pitters___Reading_78_Apple_Peeler___78?Args=
(peels, but doesn't slice or core)

I think I could live without the slicer....not sure I could live without
the corer. Thoughts?
