As several folks have noted, 'Wolf River' is not a fresh-eating apple and no one should plant it expecting to use it for that. However, many oldtimers planted it to use for dried fruit. The mealiness which is so unpleasant in fresh use becomes a virtue when this apple is used as it was intended, for making dried apples for storage and later use.
