Ernest, for both red and black currants, I stick leafless cuttings of the
previous year's growth in early spring. Most if not all of these cuttings
have stricken root by midsummer. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, MN (USDA Zone

There were a few buds. I'll try red currants now. Don't know if
this is the right time of year.
