Here is a website to look at http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/tfipm/mites.htm#rust.
Scroll down to the rust mites and that is what I am more familiar with.
You can look at the other descriptions on the web page. Also you can use
Google or another search engine and put in "spider mites pear" without the quote
marks and see some other sites that may have what you are looking for.
Ordinarily I would suggest that you put on the dormant spray which would
usually take care of the problem. It is too late now to put on the dormant
spray. You would burn the fruit buds.
Go to http://pep.wsu.edu/hortsense/ Click on Tree Fruits. Then click on Pear. Then click on Spider Mites. This is what WSU recommends. They are suggesting insecticidal soaps at this point. Also I have read that if it is too late for the dormant spray then it is best to fertilize well to give them an extra boost. (Make them healthy.) Let me know if this fits what you have.
Thanks,
Bob Hartman
Western Washington I have something affecting my luscious and summercrisp pears. The leaves
and bits of new growth develop red spots (like a rash) and curl upward. The
edges of the leaves also go black, like leaf scab. It seems to be somewhat
severe. Any ideas what the causes might be? Any recommendations for
treatment?
Thank you!
