Dr. Bors,
I'm presuming you meant a 70% success rate?

I also use parafilm. It’s so clean
and easy and most important it works. I teach
students in classes and they
often get a 7% success rate. When I learned with
rubberbands I got less than
10%take! We’ll never go back to rubber bands.

Parafilm is great - and I suppose I'm biased, because
the folks who taught me to graft used it, so I've
never felt the need to 'go backwards' and try using
wax.
As to expense, it's pretty cheap - last time I bought
a 2"x250' roll of Parafilm M, it was about $20.00. I
can do a large number of grafts with that 250 ft roll
of Parafilm, and I wrap the entire scion.
Since I do 99.9% of my grafting in the field, there's
no feasible way to 'dip' grafted scions in hot wax;
Parafilm is the way to go!
I do, however, still use rubber bands for grafting
nut trees and oaks - on top of the Parafilm; but for
apples/pears/persimmons, I just use Parafilm, and
overwrap the graft union with plain old masking tape
on top of the Parafilm.
