Not an answer to your question, but I budded some plum and peach on Prunus Besseyi two summers ago. They really took off last summer, and may well set fruit this year. Although reported to be short-lived and with small fruit size, the compactness (supposedly grow to small bush size) and speed of development has really interested me. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years.

I don't really have room for yet another tree, but I'm thinking about miniature peach and/or nectarine trees. Zaiger Genetics claims to have bred some that taste good. Can anyone confirm that from personal experience? And has anyone tried them in zone 5?

zone 5 central NY
where one of the plums we planted last year has flower buds already.
