Depends on the size of bush you want. Currants are easy to keep
rounded and bushy, are small and tolerate some shade. You could try
some of the smaller serviceberries. Amelanchier stolonifera is only
2-3 feet high and stays a nice rounded clump, spreads slowly outwards.
Probably some of the alnifolia selections are rather short as well,
but don't have enough experience with older plants of those to see
what they'll do eventually.
