My favorites for non fruiting trees would be the sterile male Ginkgos
& the podless honey locusts. They are both used extensively in city
plantings in Wisconsin. If you can convince them to go for fruit,
Amelanchier x grandiflora is my favorite tho it is a tall bush & not a
tree.
