I've grown maypop in the colder part of zone 5 of New York's Hudson Valley for many years, although I didn't harvest any fruit for a number of years. A couple of years ago I grew a couple of vines in pots so that I could keep a close eye on them. I also hand pollinated, and reaped a reasonable harvest considering the size of the vines. They were delicious, among my favorite of fruits. A number of people with whom I've corresponded who garden south of here reap regular harvest. I devoted a whole chapter to maypop in my book Uncommon Fruits for Every Garden, and a section them in my other book Landscaping with Fruit (the flowers are breathtakingly beautiful). The books are available for loan from the NAFEX library, for sale from Amazon and other booksellers, and for sale (signed) directly from me at my website, http://www.leereich.com/ Lee Reich, PhD Books by Lee Reich: A Northeast Gardener's Year The Pruning Book Weedless Gardening Uncommon Fruits for Every Garden Landscaping with Fruit On Aug 19, 2009, at 11:16 PM, John Emmett wrote:
