My oldest peach tree (variety
unknown) is having problems and I wonder what, if anything, to do about
it. Vertical patches of bark become unattached from the wood. When I
remove this dead bark, I see that adjacent bark seems to be trying to grow over
the exposed wood. I don't know there is a problem until I see tiny white
shelf fungi growing on the dead bark. I removed some of the dead bark and
wonder if I should remove all of it and paint exposed wood with pine
tar.
Suggestions very
welcome.
