Yes, the stock is somewhat variable. This has been to my benefit. I've gotten some monster blueberry and currant bushes from them, presumably because they hadn't sold as many as they'd hoped the prior year or two, so they just let the stock grow. I've also gotten ordinary bushes from them. I've never gotten anything especially bad, although I was embarrassed for years that a note I wrote to them about surface mold on some blueberry plants was the first google hit for my name . . . But the moldy plant did just fine, and is currently covered with baby blueberries.

The owner's name is Bill MacKentley and he is very obliging if you have problems with your order. I've ordered from St. Lawrence for years and the quality of the nursery stock is admittedly quite variable. I've always chalked this up to its being in a very short- season area of New York State. Given proper care in the year I plant it, it has always caught up. Some of the things that bill sells are tissue-cultured plants. Saskatoons are an example. And he has some genetic material and offers a few cultivars that no one else offers. This is very much a mom and pop operation employing only a modest number of nonfamily members. I give him my business whenever I can to encourage him to stay in business. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn.

I've ordered from St Lawrence every year for the last 8-9 years. I've always gotten good quality stock, promptly & everything is organic. I've had a few issues on larger orders but called them on the phone & the owner who's name I can't remember has always been extremely helpful & informative & quickly replaced any damaged or inadequate stock. A lot of their selections seem to be specific to zones 4-5, so they do well here in SW Wisconsin.

nurseries ?"

I ordered from them once. I got runts for trees, 24" and 30". One
tree had its bole in the shape of an "S" and the bole of the other was
split down the middle. I complained but got no reply.
