Too true. What about trying those motion activated water jets? I saw them on "Ask This Old House."
Don't know if they'd be safe to use in the winter though.

Nevertheless, in an area where electric fences are otherwise unheard of, it may get the neighborhood up in arms. There are a lot of things that farm kids and farm families take for granted that freak out at least some city kids and families (and, I'm sure, this is also true the other way around).
