I have found the Jan and Joy to have a very slight bitter and astringent aftertaste. You can taste the plum heritage in the fruit. The taste works very well in a jam. Actually on of my favorites. The color ( deep red/purple) and texture hold well up too. The Nanking fruit and flowers earlier here in the south. Very productive bush, but the fruit is very fragile and does not cook well. The color changes to the a very unattractive pink goo. I eat it only fresh or frozen. Nice sour cherry taste (actually is sometimes reminds me of an under-ripe grape). Joy and Jan seems to grow slower and end up being a smaller bush. Nankings grow fairly quickly to about 6-8 feet tall. Robert -------------------------------------------- Now Zone 8a!!
