I'm in zone 5.  Nankings are in the latespring, Joel is in the late summer.  I don't remember the dates, but would recommend both.  I have two Joel's that are maybe 18" tall, but covered with fruit the last two years.  I can't wait for them to get larger.  I got them as distressed plants at Lowes and never regreted it.   Not many late summer cherry fruiting options out there.  Nankings will grow faster.  My Nankings have already flowered but the Joel's haven't leafed out or bloomed yet.

I have some pics of the Joels covered with fruit somewhere - might be able to find them if you are interested.

Where are you?  What dates?  Date of ripening could easily be the deciding factor for me.

Thanks.

Ginda,  I have both Nanking and Joel.  I love both.  Nanking ripens much earlier than Joel.  Taste is similar for both.

Has anyone grown Jan, Joel, & Joy?  How do you like them, as plants
and for the fruit?  When does the fruit ripen?

How about Nanking cherries?  Same questions?

Which tastes better?  Which requires less sun to fruit?

I'm looking for something to use for a short hedge in partial sun.  I
often go on vacation in August, so July and September are better times
for fruit to ripen for me.

Thanks
