Thanks for mentioning this company. They offer some interesting varieties I've never heard of before.
This is the first I've heard of the "guigne" type of cherry, which they say is meltingly tender and flavorful. The descriptions I read of modern cherry varieties praise characteristics like sturdy shipabillity or the ability to absorb dye uniformly, so they're depressing for this home gardener to read. Can anyone here confirm that these guigne cherries really are unusually good for fresh eating, as this catalog claims?
If so, I'll have to rearrange my garden plan to cram these trees in somewhere. I'd hate to chop down our huge old maple trees, since they're beautiful, but I wouldn't be upset if they happened to come down in a storm, since I can think of better uses for the space they take up.
