Is anyone familiar with an old apple variety called "Hess"? The only citation
I have found is in an edition of Downing's book on fruit trees. A neighbor
has a tree that has a tradition of being a Hess. This is in southern Vermont,
and supposedly the Hess originated in Pennsylvania. It's a nice apple for
eating and sauce.
