A friend of mine called the Extension office asking how to kill Creeping Charlie in his lawn. He was told to use boric acid but to add a little at a time so he wouldn't kill his lawn. He obtained a big tube of industrial grade boric acid normally intended to kill ants. Every couple of weeks he'd sprinkle a little more until the Charlie died, but so did his lawn. The creeping charlie came back from seed but the grass did not.
That reminds me of when I was in my twenties, setting up a garden for the first time. Quack Grass invaded my asparagus patch and was told (by the Extension Office people) that asparagus was salt tolerant and that salt would kill the grass. I found out that the quack grass was just as salt tolerant as the asparagus - they both died.
