That's an accomplishment you should be proud of, Stephen. When I was
exploring ways that cooling bills (i.e. air conditioning costs) could be
reduced, I looked into installing a whole house fan and found that they
are illegal in St. Paul because of the increased fire risk they pose.
However, my folks had a whole house fan in Kansas and it worked
beautifully to force hot air out of the house (especially the attic) at
night and to pull cool night air in. -- Sam Brungardt

Off topic, but interesting. We've reduced our home energy use by 60%
the past couple years. Conservation is the quickest, easiest, and
largest first step toward sustainable, carbon-neutral
(atmospheric-carbon-reducing is what's needed) energy.
What we've put in:
1. Whole house fan (we're in CA central valley, with hot (90s and 100s)
dry summers; this cut our cooling costs 60%) 2. CFL lighting 3. Flippy
on-off switch for kitchen faucet 4. Dual-pane energy efficient windows
5. Extremely energy-efficient washer - also spin-dries so efficiently
dryer time is cut in half 6. Smart Power strips that completely shut off
electronics not in use 7. Tankless water heater
8. 1 KW Solar panel
9. Additional attic insulation (in process)
We haven't reduced use or quality of appliances, lights, electronics -
just increased our energy efficiency.
