"Crows scream louder than carrots". One more reason I'm never tempted to shoot my carrots.
Crows I don't understand, mine are only interested in my cherries but are unable to maneuver in a tree only draped with a net so it's no big deal. My clients in other areas have crows that go after almost every fruit and the netting can become tiresome. I don't believe I have fewer crows but there maybe more around here to eat.
I think the law protects crows so I've never considered shooting them but city dwellers are often talking about "eating crow" without any mention of flavor.
As far as shooting the competition, in this country the farther away you are from the urban centers the more comfortable people tend to be shooting wildlife but we will always have amongst us some gentle folk who will manage to survive as do the Buddhists, even while pulling their livings directly from the earth. I, however, am one of those who has been turned into a blood thirsty killer in the defense of my fruit and vegetables. I'm still a few steps from actually eating coon although I feel that's the ethical thing to do if you take its life.
