I have ordered from Hartmanns. I was looking for unusual varieties of
blueberries (little giant), and they had them. I was also a small retail
customer.
The first order arrived with a blueberry that was labeled something other
than 'little giant'. I contacted them, and they cheerfully replaced it,
but the replacement arrive late in the season. Whether because of that or
some other reason, it died over the summer. Ironically, the original plant
(which I gave to my sister) appears to actually be a 'little giant',
despite the tag. My sister loves it, and hopes to get some more.
I ordered the following year and a lot of the stuff I got from them died
over the summer. It was a droughty summer, and it probably wasn't their
fault, but I've had a worse track record with them than with other
nurseries, so I currently favor other places.
I found Hartmann's pleasant and helpful to deal with, and would order from
them again if they had a plant I couldn't readily find elsewhere.
My current favorite berry nursery is 'Nourse Berry Farm'. It is close to
me (meaning less shipping stress) and has very helpful descriptions and a
good (although not huge) selection of cultivars. I did have trouble with
some raspberries they sent me last spring not thriving. I contacted them
about it well into the summer, mostly just to let them know, since it was
too late for me to want to replant. They insisted on replacing the order -
all three plants, although two had finally sprouted weakly. I got a
postcard just the other day reminding me that I should expect the
replacements this spring. Everything else I've gotten from Nourse has been
very healthy.
