If I had a field which contained hickory, oak, etc. trees which were doing well I wouldn't spend a minute about whether pecans would grow there. I have seen pecan and black walnut growing on upland b lack gumbo as well as sand, and I have seen them growing in stream bottoms. I don't think it woulod be a problem either way.
