On a property like mine there is no way to locate all the nests or even a significant amount- they can be in the ground, in the trees, on structures and they can be large or small. When I see a nest I don't even worry about stings, I just get out the extendable pole of my pole-saw, fully extend it and attack the nest from a safe distance, prepared to run if I have to. I only get stung when I disturb the nests I don't see.
I have never seen a Yellow Jacket nest hanging in the open where they can be destroyed with a long pole. Sounds to me like what we call "Paper Nest" wasps. The only place I've ever seen Yellow Jacket nests is in the ground. When I find one I simply dust the entrance well with Sevin powder in the late evening or early morning. They crawl though it coming and going and within 24 hours the nest activity is dead.
Problem is finding all the nests.
