In fact, I've spent the last two mornings spraying while they defoliate the cherries and quinces. Maybe fresh Bull-Eye (spinosad) would be more effective, but the 3-year old stuff I used (at 3X concentration the last time) failed to do anything to them. . .

Spinosad is a relatively "narrow spectrum" insecticide. This is good in that spraying it won't wipe out all the beneficial bugs and beasties in your garden. But it also means that it's not effective against japanese beetles.

I haven't noticed any japanese beetles yet this year, but they are rarely a problem for me this early in the season.
