Pete, never seen one here in mid-Georgia, but to answer
your question, it's other name is wood chuck, and not
prairie dog.

No, Ernie, that's 'The Magnolia State'; spelled and pronounced quite
differently from groundhog.

Growing up in east-central Alabama, I never saw a groundhog until I
was in college - and never saw more than one until I graduated from
vet school and moved to Tennessee.
