Lon:
Richard may want to look into the history of Pearmains. Its seems that there was a Summer Scarlet Pearmain, the oldest account I can find is 1849 as follows:
26. Summer Scarlet Pearmain (Bell's Scarlet) English. —
Medium to large, conical, mostly covered with crimson;
flesh stained with red; tender and good. Trees grow
freely, and bear young and abundantly.—Aug. and Sept.

This was in :
THE FRUIT GARDEN,
A TREATISE INTENDED TO EXPLAIN AND ILLUSTRATE THE PHYSIOLOGY OF FRUIT TREES, Published by ALDEN & BEARDSLEY.
And more recently, I see the Summer Scarlet Pearmain is listed as a syn to Summer Scarlet in:
U. S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
NOMENCLATURE OF THE APPLE; A CATALOGUE OF THE KNOWN VARIETIES REFERRED

Richard actually has the apple, but needs information on the origin.
Maple Valley doesn't have any of that.
